So this is our last blog. Today we will write about our blog experience.

This is the fifth semester that I have to write a blog and to be honest I still do not get bored or tired about doing it. In my opinion we just study and work. We are toooo busy doing those things and when we have some free time, most of the time we sleep, watch tv, have quality time with our love ones and hardly ever take some time for us. For me writing a blog it is the time when I have time for mysleft, to think about a specific topic and write about it. Also read my students' blogs and get to know them better. It is really interesting! Also you get to know me better, you now know that teachers do more than just work. I do not know why but most students think that teachers just work, do not have fun! which is really funny. A friend who is also a teacher, he told me that once a student asked him if he goes to the supermarket or if he goes to pubs, my friend said yes, his student was impressed! 

About my writing skills, I have had the chance to practise a lot more and when you have questions it is really good since I feel happy every time I have the chance to help.
To be honest I don't want to include anything else in the future.


Well about something I would like to write about maybe how I see myself in 10 years and also how I used to see myself when I was a little girl.

My favorite animal or pet

                   My favorite animal or pet

Well to be honest, I think there are many beautiful animals.

But since this time I have to choose I would say that it is the manatee.

Every time that I have said this to my friends they have said; really? manatee? how come?

They are sooooo ugly! and then I said; no, they are not, in my opinion they are really cute.

When I was about 9 years old my father bought a computer. This came with some games included.

I remember that one of the games was about the sea. And there was like a “host”, he used to talk about the different animals that we could find there, what they eat, how long they live and some other specific information. Then there were some games where you have to use the information given. So the host was a manatee! He was so cute, he even sang a song. It was the beach boys song, surfin USA. 

Now some specific information about this animal. They are also called sea cows.  “Manatees have a mass of 400 to 550 kilograms and mean length of 2.8 to 3.0 metres, with max of 3.6 metres and 1,775 kilograms seen. Also females tend to be larger and heavier"

Manatees are herbivores. The places where they can be found are the following:

“Marshy coastal areas and rivers of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico (T. West Indian manatee), the Amazon Basin (T. inunguis, Amazonian manatee), and West Africa (T. senegalensis, West African manatee)”

Hey!

Well since I am not studying now, I have decided to talk about one of the subjects that I had in 2016. I was studying a Master in Education and during the second semester I had one class that I really liked. That class was English grammar and phonetics versus Spanish grammar and phonetics.

While I was studying to become an English teacher I had 3 semesters of phonetics and also 3 semesters of grammar. I also had 3 semesters of academic writing. That happened about 10 years ago. So when I started with this class I thought lucky me! I have learnt a lot  about these topics so this class is going to be sooo easy!

I couldn’t be more wrong!

It was one of the most difficult subjects that I have ever had!!

All the contents related to English were fine; I mean I had to study most of them again. Because in this class we had to analyze each part of a sentence, describe it, change it and compare to Spanish sentence. That part was really hard. Spanish is much harder than English. Talking about grammar.

For example if we want to talk about habits and routines in English we would say:

I – You- We-They take the bus every morning

He – She takes the bus every morning.

Now Spanish:

Yo tomo la micro cada mañana

Tú tomas la micro cada mañana

El – Ella toma la micro cada mañana

Nosotros tomamos la micro cada mañana

Ellos - Ustedes toman la micro cada mañana

So as you can see in English there are only 2 options while in Spanish we have 5 options.

That is how the verb changes depending on the subject but I do remember that when we want to express ideas in the past in Spanish there were 10 options!

Even though it is my first language, believe me when I say that it was really hard. We had 3 tests and all the questions related to English grammar and phonetics I knew the answers. To be honest it was not that way when I had to work on the exercises that were about Spanish.

Most of the classes the teacher started explaining the contents and then individually we had to work on a handout. Then we compared our answers with a partner. Finally we shared our answers with the whole class. Sometimes all of us made mistakes! And that happened when the teacher asked us about Spanish grammar or phonetics.

Well I really liked this subject because it was a huge challenge, and also I learnt things that I did not know in Spanish!

Well to be honest it was not easy for me to start writing this blog. I was not sure about which topic I should choose.

At the end I have decided to talk about an expert on my field.

I was not sure about which topic I should choose.

At the end I have decided to write about an expert on my field. I remember that when I started studying I did not know what subjects I would have. One of them caught my attention immediately. That subject was phonetics and phonology. I had 3 semester of this subject and it was not easy but on my first year the teacher asked us to work with this really nice book, its name is phonetics and phonology, it was written by Peter Roach.

Peter Roach is a British phonetician, he was born in 30 June 1943. He is a graduate of Psychology and Philosophy, after that he studied at Manchester University where he studied teaching English overseas. Then he decided to start his postgraduate studies, the course he took was Phonetics. He also completed a PhD.He retired in 2004.

I really like his book because it helped me a lot when I was a student. I still use it sometimes. When I was a student it was hard to understand the different chapters but now that I read it well it isn’t easy but it isn’t as hard as it used to be.

When I was younger I used to play the piano. I took piano lessons for like 5 years! I started when I was around 7 years old. A really good friend of my father was my teacher, she was really good. I have really nice memories, but to be honest I did not see her for a long time. I regret that because then she got really sick and she died a couple of weeks ago. Well as I was saying I started when I was little, then I stopped for a couple of years, then again I had classes, then stopped and then classes again hahaha I just think that this happened because I was a child and then a teenager, so I preferred to do other things than playing the piano. I had classes with 4 different teachers! One of them used to come to my house, I used to go to 2 of my teacher's house and I had classes at Escuela Moderna de Música. Then when I was around 15 years old I started making jewelry, I really enjoyed that but I have not done it for a looong time.  It is sad now to think that I do not have a hobbie!! :(

I used to enjoy making jewelry but since I am so busy now I just stopped. Well if listening to music is consider a hobbie, then I would say that's it! I love to listen to music! When I study, work, take the bus, subway, walk and even when I take a shower. It is hard for me not to listen to music all the time. 

I think that now that I know that I do not have a real hobbie I will start thinking about one :)

                                                              My favorite picture

Well this picture was taken in 2009. At that time I was working at Starbucks. 

I was part of the company for a little bit more than a year. Well this picture I know it is not like a “real one” since it is a cartoon, but if you pay a closer look you will find my name on it.

Yes, I am the one who has a broom. All the people that work at Starbucks are called Baristas and between us we call partner. Since I used to be really worried about cleaning and organizing the store all the time. So that is why my friends got me a nickname, Maca aseo y hornato.

This picture in a way represents the way each of us used to be in the store. I really like it because I have so many nice memories about that time of my life. I met amazing people and the customers were so good with us. When I was working there, I used to party a lot with the baristas, every weekend. And sometimes even during the week. It is a bit sad that I only got them on facebook now, I have not seen them since 2011. Now we are all working in other places so we just keep in touch once in a while. I guess that happens all the time. For example when you are at school, you have really good friends. Then you start studying at university and you do not see those friends that much as you used to. When you finish university, it is the same. The friends that you had, when you start working you just talk to them sometimes. It is kind of sad, but it is the way things go. Hope this does not happen to you!

So to be honest it took me some time to start this blog. There are so many movies that I have watched and that I really like!
I had to take some time to think and choose one. At the end I decided to talk about this really lovely movie, Coco.


This movie was part of last year, it is an American 3D computer - animated fantasy film which was produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It was directed by Lee Unkrich, he based the story on the concept of the Mexican holiday Day of the dead.

In Mexico the movie was released the weekend before Dia de los Muertos while in Chile was released at the end of last year.

So this movie has won "the awards for best animated movie at the Golden Globes, Baftas, New York Film Critics Circle and Producers Guild, as well as 11 of the animation-specialist Annie awards (including best animated feature)"
Also won at the 2018 Oscars, the awards were Best animated feature and Best Original Song.


Coco has a record in our country, it is the movie that has been watched the most during the last 3 decades!

             Here is a list of the top 5 in our country

2. Minions (2015) – 2.086.790 viewers.
3. Stefan vs. Kramer (2012)  – 2.086.614 viewers.

Well about my experience watching this movie.

I went to the cinema with my 3 sisters (they are older than me), my 2 nieces and 5 nephews I am going to tell you their names and how old they are.

Patricia is 46 years old, she has 2 children. Nicolas (11 years old) and Matias (9 years old)

Paola is 43 years old, she has 2 children too. Camila (9 years old) and Gabriel (6 years old) then Claudia, she is 41 years old and she has 3 children. Joaquin (7 years old) Trinidad (5 years old) and Cristobal (3 years old).

I went with all of them to the cinema! We had a really good time. When we left the place we talked about the movie and my sisters, nephews and nieces loved it.

I just loved everything about it, the music, the story, etc. It really caught my attention. 

If you have not watched this movie yet, PLEASE DO!!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! :)
